Drumanagh Promontory Fort near Loughshinny is a nationally important archaeological site and is of international significance in terms of Ireland’s relationship with the Roman world. The site is also a National Monument subject to statutory protection under the National Monuments Act, 1930 (as amended). Since the site was acquired in 2016, the Council has undertaken works to secure it and to provide for continued and appropriate public access.

A Draft Conservation and Management Plan has been developed for the site which will provide the basis for its ongoing management. The Conservation Plan methodology facilitates the systematic examination of the many facets of historic places, by collating information, ascribing significance and devising policies for future management. The Draft Conservation and Management Plan presents what we know about the history and heritage of the promontory fort at Drumanagh and underlines the importance and sensitivity of the site. It also sets out a range of issues regarding its conservation and management and sets out policies and objectives for the future protection and management of the site.

You can view or download the entire Draft Plan by clicking on the tab under the heading "Materials" on the right. Alternatively you can view or download the Draft Plan section by section by clicking on the tabs under the heading "Contents".

A copy of the Draft Conservation and Management Plan is also available at Council offices and local libraries.

A public information "drop-in" session will be held on Wednesday 7th March 2018 in Rush Community Centre, Upper Main Street, Rush from 4 to 8 pm and all are welcome to come along during this time when Council staff will be available to answer questions and take feedback in relation to the Draft Conservation and Management Plan.
