Primary tabs

Fingal County Council has commenced an extensive consultation process in Donabate as part of our plans to create an Urban Framework Plan (UFP) for the town.

This Urban Framework Plan seeks to provide a vision for the Donabate town centre which will improve and enhance the Main Street area and guide careful urban improvement. It is envisaged this Plan will highlight the distinctive character of Donabate, its setting on the peninsula, current issues pertinent to Donabate and, lastly, outline a programme of actions which have been agreed with the community.

Donabate Portrane Liaison Sub-Committee was established for the drafting and consultation process of the UFP and local input is vital. We value what you have to say.

The participation process involves a series of workshops. The first took place on Tuesday 21st January 2020 in Donabate Library, with over 50 people attending, comprising representatives from 25 community groups. The workshop was conducted by an independent facilitator, who focused on community groups and the particular issues they face.

Over the next few weeks further workshops are planned with businesses, residents’ associations and schools as part of this extensive participatory process which will lead to a draft plan. This will be subject to further consultation and input from the local community. A Drop-In Information Session will also be organised when the Draft Plan is published.

The proposed UFP includes the general Main Street area and includes lands from Newbridge Square to the schools on the Portrane Road. The UFP will provide a vision for the improvement and enhancement of Donabate Village. The Plan will highlight the following:

Distinctive Character of Donabate and its setting on the peninsula

Current Donabate Issues

  • Develop a Programme of Agreed Actions with the Community (i.e. traffic calming, community facilities, bicycle parking, planting, street paving, lighting, shopfront improvements, opportunity sites, etc)

We Need Your Input and Suggestions at this stage of the process, regarding Main Street character, issues and suggested Actions for the UFP.  In support of this process, Fingal County Council welcome any comments you might have on this UFP and invite submissions to be made before 5pm on 4th Sept 2020.
