Fingal County Council is proposing the development of a neighbourhood play space, designed for children age 4-12.

The proposed playspace will encourage imaginative play and healthy physical activity while offering an attractive leisure amenity that will benefit residents, bringing significant environmental, economic and health benefits to the wider community.

Preliminary research has been undertaken in the Castleknock area by Fingal County Council’s Operations Department regarding potential locations for a new playground. In order to contribute to this research Fingal County Council wishes to determine the opinions and preferences of local residents and potential users of this amenity.

Following this research, Fingal County Council’s Operations Department will forward the results of this survey together with the 5 locations proposed, to the Planning and Strategic Department for their consideration. The next step will be the preparation of a formal Part 8 planning procedure for the delivery of a play space to the Castleknock area and application for planning permission to build the amenity. A statutory public consultation will take place at that time and members of the public and local interest groups will be invited to participate in the consultation process.

Following the submission of a resident petition and a motion by Councillors to the Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart/Castleknock/Ongar Area Committee, Operations Dept. D15 have surveyed the open spaces within the castleknock Area to identify areas suitable for a playspace. Factors considered include size of open space, local demographics, parking facilities, proximity to transport hubs and community facilities, topography, proximity to residents and opportunities for passive surveillance.
