What is Ballyboughal Village Safe Routes to School?
Fingal County Council's Department of Environment, Climate Action, Active Travel and Sport is proposing to conduct Safe Routes to School improvement works and traffic calming measures along the R108 in Ballyboughal Village, from south of the National School to Ballyboughal GFC.
The National School to Ballyboughal GFC is approximately 500 metres long.
Fingal County Council are committed to the delivery of improved walking and cycling facilities across the county. As part of these works, we look at improving connectivity and permeability to our schools under our Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Programme. These works together with our support to the school encourage and promote walking and cycling for the shorter journeys in accordance with government policy and Fingal’s County Development Plan.
The scheme will improve the walking route from the National School to Ballyboughal GFC, whilst the traffic calming measures will endorse safety in the village.
What improvements will the project consist of?
Provide a Safe Route to School – from the National School to the GFC
Protect vulnerable road users – school children, pedestrians and cyclists
Slow traffic
Endorse safety in the village through physical interventions
Create a village type environment
Improve existing infrastructure

Access and duration of works
Local access to all the services and amenities in the village will be maintained during the work.
Improvement work to Ballyboughal Village will take approximately two/three weeks to complete and will occur during normal working hours.
Works are due to commence in Q3 2026.
Under what legislation will the works be carried out?
The works will be carried out under Section 38 Road Traffic Act 1994 (as amended) and section 95 of the Road Traffic Act 1961 (as amended).
What design guidance has been used for this scheme?
