Why is this scheme needed?

Fingal County Council is proposing to provide Protected Cycle Lanes along both sides of the R132 from Blake’s Cross to Minister’s Road. Cycle lanes make it safer for people of all ages and abilities to get around by bike.
Protected Cycle Lanes are separated from vehicles by flexible bollards, line marking and coloured surfaces. New cycle lanes will foster closer connections between Lusk and its surrounding area, making it safer to connect with public transport at the R132 for longer journeys into Swords, Dublin city and beyond.
Whether you’re heading to school, to sport or to the shops cycling is a free, healthy and environmentally friendly way to travel and these works are in line with the vision for active and sustainable modes of travel that contribute to safer routes to school, better mental and physical health and a cleaner climate.

Works proposed include

  • 2.7km Protected Cycle Lanes in existing hard shoulders (both sides of R132).
  • Traffic calming measures, pedestrian crossing points, bus stodps and concrete traffic islands.
  • School gate enhancement measures for Corduff National School.

Where is the proposed work happening?

Proposed cycle lanes will be installed beginning north of Blake’s Cross and travelling north for approximately 2.7km along the R132 (formerly known as N1) to the junction at Minister’s Road. Road resurfacing works are proposed on Kilhedge Lane between junction of R132 and Dun Emer Avenue.

How can I get involved?

Proposed Speed Limit Reductions

A separate public consultation is being held for two Speed Limit Reductions that are proposed at ;

  • Reduction to 60km/h per hour at Kilhedge Lane to Quickpenny Lane,
  • Reduction to 50km/h per hour at Minister’s Road from the junction of R132 to west of Dun Emer.

These lower speed limits will help provide a safer and more pleasant road environment for all road users, and support the future expansion of protected cycle lanes to Quickpenny  Lane and Lusk as demand increases alternatives to commuting by car.
