Fingal Safer Schools is a programme that delivers school zone safety improvements to make walking and cycling to school safer and more convenient. The scheme improves the visibility of schools to motorists, enhances road safety, reduces vehicle speeds and upgrades pedestrian facilities, helping to create safer and more accessible school environments.
Aim of Fingal Safer Schools
• Improve safety at the school gate by providing ‘front of school’ treatments to alleviate congestion and improve access. • Improve access routes to school by enhancing walking and cycling infrastructure. • Increase the number of students who cycle to school by expanding cycle parking provision.
What is proposed at Hansfield Educate Together National School?
• Application of buff-coloured road surfacing to clearly identify the school zone. • The installation of pencil and flexible bollards to define the extent of the school zone and increase its prominence for road users. • The introduction of traffic-calming measures, including speed ramps, to encourage compliance with lower vehicle speeds and enhance safety for pupils, parents and all road users. • Installation of School Ahead and School Keep Clear road markings. • Localised footpath, kerb and drainage improvement works.
Under what legislation will the works be carried out?
